Sonia Rykiel a French fashion designer died...

The famous Sonia Rykiel, a French fashion designer, passed away this week. She was 86 years old. A pioneer of Parisian womenswear from the late 1960s onwards.
Sonia Rykiel opened her first store in Paris in 1968 on the Left Bank. Despite becoming synonymous with knitwear, casual-chic and the infamous “poor boy” sweaters – fitted ribbed jumpers with raised armholes that narrowed the torso and shoulders – her legacy is more focused on pioneering womenswear at a time when women were expected to wear sombre tones and skirts.

Regularly compared with Coco Chanel, both designers famously eschewed couture in favour of ready-to-wear clothes, encouraged women to wear trousers, made stripes a signature look and helped carve out Paris as a major player on the modern fashion map.
Her manifesto urged “women to be eccentric, seductive, mysterious, and to create their own style”.

2. La bande annonce

Est-ce que tu aimes l'histoire? Pourquoi?
(use the patterns: a) I like the story because it is: J'aime l'histoire par ce que c'est... or
b)I do not like the story because it is: Je n'aime pas l'histoire parce que c'est...)

3. Les photos

Qu'est ce que tu vois? Décris les images. (Use the stuctures: there is/are...il y a...)

Pourquoi?
(Use the following patterns: I like the hoverboard because it is...
J'aime l'hoverboard parce que c'est...)

Pendant les jeux olympiques, il y a 28 sports différents. During the Olympic Games, there are 28 different sports.
Quel sport est-ce que tu préfères? What sport do you prefer?
To answer this question, use this pattern: I prefer... Je préfère+ déterminant+ sport name
ex: I prefer football: Je preférè le football.

Who is the world's best pastry chef this year?

Who is the world's best pastry chef this year? Pierre Hermé, from France for his famous Macaron...

Pierre Hermé is to the macaron what Louis Vuitton is to the handbag. His dexterity with this most intricate of indulgences has seen him become the world’s most famous patissier, and his penetration of the global luxury goods market is comparable to Vuitton and his peers with nearly 50 eponymous boutiques across the world.
Born in Alsace, France, Hermé started his career at the age of the 14. At just 24 he was heading pastry production at upscale Parisian food merchant Fauchon, where he remained for over a decade. In 1997, he played a key role in turning France’s Ladurée pastry business into a global brand.
It was here Hermé’s obsession with the pastry world’s most fiddly and time consuming preparation began. Over his career Hermé has redefined the macaron, pioneering new techniques and creating daring flavour combinations including Pedro Ximénez and raisin; olive oil and vanilla; and fig and foie gras.
In 1998 he struck out on his own with a pastry boutique in Tokyo. His creations soon achieved cult status and since the early 2000s Hermé has built what can safely be called an empire of boutiques in locations as diverse as Thailand, Germany, South Korea and Azerbaijan.
The 54-year-old also finds time to oversee two restaurants within Paris’s Le Royal Monceau hotel. His elaborate displays take the hotel buffet to hitherto unknown heights.
Macarons may be his speciality, but Hermé has mastered the rest of the pastry chef’s repertoire. He has published books on everything from tarts to plated desserts and has also contributed to some of the world’s most important culinary references including Larousse Gastronomique.
Memorably dubbed the ‘Picasso of pastry’ by French Vogue, Hermé is as lavishly decorated as his pastry creations. He was the youngest person ever to be named France’s Pastry Chef of the Year and has also been awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.

What pastry do you prefer?
Quel dessert est-ce que tu préfères?

To answer, use the pattern: I prefer: Je préfère...
ex: Je préfère la glace (I prefer an ice cream)

Am I really French?

Some of my students asked me whether I was really French...

And the answer is: " OUI"!

I was born in Lyon, 33 years ago on July 24 at 12.05 (my mother and I were ready to have our lunch!). Actually, Lyon is one of the biggest city in France, well known for being the gourmet capital of France. And me, I am quite a gourmet woman. What about you?

If your want to more information, please click on these links:
http://www.planetware.com/tourist-attractions-/lyons-f-rh-ly.htm
http://about-france.com/cities/lyon.htm

Here is the Fine art Museum of Lyon where I worked while I was a student.

Here is the museum of Archeology where I used to go for concerts and music festivals, especially Fourviere Festival: http://www.nuitsdefourviere.com/

Here is Le Parc de la Tête d'Or, where I used to go for a walk with some relatives, jog and take pictures for weddings (so romantic!!!).

Here is one part of the old city I like the most because of the atmosphere and all the small typical restaurants.

Also, here are 2 videos about Lyon. The first one is a general presentation of the city. The second one explore what are " bouchon" and why Lyon is the capital city of the Gastronomy.

The reason why I expect my students to active in my classroom...

One French proverb I remember when I teach

= " Enseigner ce n' est pas remplir des vases mais allumer des feux" (Montaigne)
