 "A day in my life”
From the middle of October, the students began a new unit: “ a day in my life”.
This unit aims to help the students to acquire the basics of the routine through new vocabulary about the calendar, the time, the house, the school, the household and the hobbies.
Then, they might learn some useful language structures to describe a place, a schedule, and the daily life activities in general.
For sure, the contents and the organization will vary according to the student levels, their needs and interests.  For example for the beginners, the description of the vocabulary ad easy sentences dealing with the main actions such as eating, going to school, playing… will be taught. By this way, my objective is to encourage them to interact in simple and rehearsed exchanges, using verbal and non-verbal language. Also, they might use basic phrases to communicate ideas, feelings and information on a variety of aspects of everyday topics.
Whereas the intermediate level students will be more focused on grammar to be able to respond in detail and appropriately to simple short phrases and basic information in spoken, written and visual text. Then, they should interact confidently in basic structured exchanges and use phrases effectively to communicate ideas, feelings and information in a variety of familiar situations; ideas are relevant, detailed and include examples. Finally, they should communicate with an excellent sense of audience.

During the week of October 17 to October 21, we began our new unit. After brainstorming about the new unit topic, 
students expressed what they want to do and to learn for the next weeks to explore their own routine as well as French people routine. 
Most of them said that they wanted to play vocabulary games and cook or eat French food. I guess that France culture is linked to food in many students mind...
For sure, I will organize a special activity about French food! 
After, we reviewed the days of the week through playing games.

During the week of October 24 to October 28, the students learned how to write vocabs about the time of the day (noon, evening, night...) and learned how to read the time.

On October 19th, the Grade 4 students began a new unit: “ a day in my life”.

Circumstances: When I am tired (quand je suis fatigue(é),When I am free (quand je suis libre), During the week, (pendant la semaine), During the weekend (pendant le week-end), with my family (avec ma famille),with my friends (avec mes amis).
Action verbs: to learn (apprendre), to share (partager), to play (jouer), to go (aller), to prefer(préférer)…
Meals: breakfast (le petit déjeuner), snake (le goûter)… 
Sports: football, basketball, swimming (la natation), rugby, golf...
watch TV (regarder la télévision), going to the cinema (aller au cinéma), reading books (lire des livres) …Music instruments: piano, flute…



 
During the week of October 19 to October 23, we began our new unit by discovering a french performance of pantomime dealing with daily life. Then, some students acted out a story about their own routine through body motions, without use of speech. A funny way to begin our new unit!

Then, the students reviewed the day of the week while discovering a French poetry and a song. 
















On Friday, we did a special activity about poetry. Poetry is often rich in cultural references, and it presented a wide range of learning opportunities and they are authentic texts. The students discussed, understood and performed a part of a poem.





During the week of October 26 to October 30, the students reviewed a grammar rule: the use of masculine, feminine and plural articles and learned some new vocabulary about the house while playig with jigsaw puzzle. Then, they began to learn how to describe a house. 




During the week of November 2 to November 7, the students learned some new vocabulary so as to be able to construct more complex sentences. They did some collaborative activities to reinforce their skills. They also reviewed the time in French. 


 



During the week of November 9 to November 13, the students reviewed all the vocabulary and grammar. Then, they used these words to play games.
During the week of November 30 to December 4, the students
 completed their formative assessments. Also, they watched a short cartoon so as to learn new words and realized some tasks by groups. 

  


During the week of December 7 to December 11, they worked online activities to develop new skills. Finally,  the students 
completed their summative assessments. All the students have done very valuable efforts! We can be proud of them!



During the week of December 14 to December 18, they realized a project to support the climate conference, called COP 21, which is taking place in France and they presented their personal projects.

This activity promoted an international mindedness through discovering some facts about the climate, the environment issue in France... 




Finally, we all played tong twister and vocabulary games. A funny way to finish the year!
