Yummy French biscuits" croquants"...

As all students have been so kind with me on Monday, I brought them some french " croquants", yummy traditional biscuits. This recipe comes from the south of France, in a region called " La Provence" in the XVII century.
Here is 2 video about la Provence:

Here is a long documentary in English about " La Provence".

Le 8 Mai 1945, un événement historique...

May 8th 1945, was the date the Allies celebrated the defeat of Nazi Germany and the end of Adolf Hitler's Reich, formally recognising the end of the Second World War in Europe. In France, it is a national holiday and a chance to remember all the ones to died for Freedom.
To read some more information, please click here.
In class, we watched a short documentary about the way French people celebrate it this year. It is the 76th anniversary of this Peace Treaty.

Poster competition based on Festival de Cannes

Grade 2 to 5 discovered Cannes Festival, an annual International Film Festival held in Cannes, in the south of France.
In the world of film, the Festival de Cannes founded in 1946 is the largest international showcase of cinematic art. In the world of the yet-to-be-discovered filmmaker, the Cannes Film Festival is a godsend. It's not like the Oscars: Anyone can submit a film, and every submission has the chance to be viewed by representatives of the international movie industry.
Every year, for 12 days in May, the small city of Cannes in southern France turns into a meeting place for cinema's players, would-be players and the people who report on them. If you don't fall into any of these categories, your chances of attending a film screening at the festival are almost nonexistent, but you can gawk at the stars and bask in the atmosphere to your heart's content.

The students viewed some posters created for this event since 1946 until last year. And some of them decided to participate to a challenge: drawing a poster for this year. The best one had received an award! The best designer is: OCEANA, from grade 3!

Here is some information about this event:

Student-Led Conferences

We marvelled at reflection, responsibility and independence, as teachers sat back, parents leaned in, and children took charge of assessment in the PYP!

With parents in tow, students from Early Years 1 to Grade 5 conducted conferences about their growth as learners. They shared  portfolios, as well as authentic inquiry experiences from daily life at school; math investigations, writing activities, coding, blogging, game skills and play spaces. Elementary was buzzing with proud children sharing what it means to be an ever-improving learner.

Our wonderful parents listened, asked questions, and affirmed their child’s reflections. Our teachers gained further insight into their students’ developing knowledge, understandings, skills and attitudes.
