During this week, the students are participating to the Francophonie Festival which celebrate the French language around the wolrd. They discovered first what does " francophonie" means, the countries in the wolrd where French language is spoken and some value and know-how are shared in the 6 continents, such as gastronomy, history, inheritance, fashion, sport...

Some of the students did some research about a particular cultural issue they were interested in, such as " le tour de France".

Grade 2 students discovered some French creative pastries.

Grade 3 shared experiences in those countries.Grade 4 students created plays to show what could happened in these French spoken country in funny situation. Some of the Grade 5 created movies to present a cultural aspect.

Some of them shown us their " treasure" from French spoken countries" too.

Then, on Friday, the students discovered the diversity of French language music all around the world, for example: Raï music (from North Africa: Algeria, Tunisia...), Ndombolo music (from Center of Africa: Congo, Cameroun...), Merengue music (from the French Island in the Carribbean: Guadeloupe, Martinique)... For sure, it had promoted an international mindedness and bring joy and fun!

For this activity, they have their face painted with the flag country they liked to most among the countries belonging to Francophonie organisation. And most of them danced so much!!! I guess Magic System, an african music group from Abibjian, Ivoiry Cost, was one of the most famous in class! Thank you to all the kids who were so enthusiastic and creative! I had a lot of fun with them!

Celebrating the Francophony Festival with you!

Dear parents,
Hoping  that you and your family are well, I am contacting you to share a project with you. In fact, on March 12-20th, we will celebrate“ la Fête de la Francophonie”.
Francophonie means, first and foremost, the French-speaking community in the world. According to the latest report about the French language in the world, published by “l’Observatoire de la Langue Française” in 2014, it is estimated that 274 million people around the world speak French. Using the French language enables not only more exchanges among the French-speaking communities, but also to build connections among professional, cultural, and political groups. I am certain that learning French in Elementary school will give your children great opportunities in the future.
Since 1970, the entire world has had a unique opportunity to celebrate French language at the end of March, which marks the birth of the Intergovernmental Organization of French-speaking nations.
As a French teacher you can imagine how enthusiastic I am about participating in this event and promoting international mindedness among all my students. I am convinced that you too want to further your son or daughter’s cultural perspective. So, I offer that you join us for this project so that we will discover something that you too like in the "French spoken world". For instance, if you have travelled to a country where French is spoken, somewhere across the five continents (such as Cameroon, French Guyana, Belgium, etc.) or if you have seen something interesting on internet for example, you could help use, In fact, I would like you to share a short video, a picture (with a text), a music or an object (clothes, souvenir object) in any French spoken country you know. I am sure you will be creative but here are a few ideas: you can briefly explain a funny experience, show an original food or even perform a creative dance... and I will show them to the students during this special week. Then I could put them on my blog too (if you allow me to do it). The deadline is Tuesday, the 16th.
I am certain that the children will be even more excited by this event and about learning French thanks to your contribution.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send me an email.
Thank you so much for your collaboration and I am looking forward to hearing from you very soon!
